RAF 2027 Fleet Poster size guide: frame or no frame?

Compare all three RAF 2027 Fleet Poster sizes, then choose between the unframed matte print and supplied black framed edition.

If you are choosing the Royal Air Force 2027 Fleet Poster, make two decisions in order: first, how much wall width can you give it; second, do you want a fine-art print or a ready-to-hang black frame? The aircraft composition stays the same across all six available combinations. Size changes its physical presence, while the frame changes how it arrives and how it is displayed.

This guide sets every measurement out as landscape width × height, then gives you a wall-marking method you can use before choosing.

The three RAF 2027 Fleet Poster sizes

The live Royal Air Force 2027 Fleet Poster is available in three 3:2 landscape sizes. The storefront option labels show the shorter side first; for wall planning, the dimensions below are reversed into width × height:

SMALL

45 × 30 cm
18 × 12 in

75% of the Standard width and height.

STANDARD

60 × 40 cm
24 × 16 in

The reference size for this comparison.

LARGE

75 × 50 cm
30 × 20 in

125% of the Standard width and height.

Those linear percentages are more useful than the size names alone. Small is 25% narrower and lower than Standard, giving it about 44% less printed area. Large is 25% wider and higher than Standard, giving it about 56% more printed area. The aircraft count and layout do not change; the same design is scaled across the three formats.

Measure the wall before choosing a name

“Small”, “Standard” and “Large” are convenient labels, but the wall decides which one fits. Use the actual rectangle instead:

  • Mark the width first. Measure 45, 60 or 75 cm across the intended position.
  • Add the height. Measure 30, 40 or 50 cm down from the top edge so you can see the full landscape footprint.
  • Make a temporary outline. Use a paper template or removable marking method that is suitable for your wall finish.
  • Check the normal view. Step back to where you usually enter, sit or stand in the room. Look for clearance from shelves, monitors, lamps, doors and nearby artwork.
  • Allow for the frame. The listed dimensions describe the print size. A frame adds material outside that rectangle, so leave extra clearance rather than treating the printed width as the finished outer width.

If you are deciding between wall art and a desk-based format altogether, the guide to aviation artwork for your wall or desk starts one step earlier.

What changes as the poster gets larger?

All three sizes retain the same 3:2 composition. Going larger does not add more aircraft or reveal a different edition. It makes every aircraft profile, role label and technical line physically larger on the wall.

The cleanest way to choose is to compare the three marked rectangles at the same viewing distance. If the 45 cm-wide outline already holds its place clearly, Small may be enough for the available wall. If 60 cm balances the furniture or neighbouring artwork, Standard gives you the middle footprint. If the 75 cm outline has the clearance you want, Large gives the design its greatest physical scale. These are measurement choices, not universal room-size rules.

The separate guide to single-aircraft or fleet artwork helps if your real decision is between one dominant silhouette and a broader line-up.

Unframed or black framed?

Each size is currently available as either an unframed print or a black framed edition, creating six live combinations.

Choose the unframed print if you already have a framing plan or want to arrange the print yourself. The listing specifies gallery-grade 220 gsm acid-free paper, giclée print quality and a smooth matte finish designed to reduce glare.

Choose the black framed edition if you want the supplied presentation as one wall-ready piece. The current listing specifies a 200 gsm semi-gloss print behind clear Perspex, a hand-crafted black wooden frame, an enclosed back and an included wire hanging kit. The page lists the frame depth as 2 cm.

The two formats use different paper specifications, so the choice is more than simply adding a border around the same loose print. Compare the live gallery views as well as the frame option before ordering.

A four-question decision check

1 · WIDTH

Can the wall comfortably take 45, 60 or 75 cm before the frame adds its outer edge?

2 · VIEW

Which marked rectangle reads best from the position where you normally see the wall?

3 · FRAME

Do you already have a frame plan, or do you want the supplied black framed presentation?

4 · CLEARANCE

Have you allowed for shelves, doors, lighting and the frame outside the printed rectangle?

Treat this as a buying aid rather than a guarantee of fit. The final check should always use the current product options and the actual wall you intend to use.

Keep the fleet story separate from the buying decision

The poster brings 25 aircraft together in the Night Ops Black edition, spanning current, training, heritage and display groupings in the product’s visual system. This article is deliberately about choosing its physical format. For the wider Fleet Series context, browse the live Fleet Series; for other wall formats, compare the current FGR4 poster collection.

The earlier RAF 2026 Fleet Poster product story explains how the previous wall brief was structured. The 2027 size guide avoids repeating that story and stays with the practical question a buyer faces now.

Choose scale first, then finish

Start with the 45 × 30, 60 × 40 and 75 × 50 cm wall outlines. Once one footprint fits the space, decide whether you want the unframed matte print or the supplied black framed presentation. That order turns a vague Small/Standard/Large choice into two concrete decisions you can check before ordering.
